Roseville Chili Dog Goes Head-to-Head With “Man vs. Food”

Have you ever seen Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel?

It’s the one where a chubby guy goes to different towns and eats everything.  Well, it’s more than that, but that’s kind of the gist.  The show’s host is Adam Richman, a guy who claims to have held every job in the restaurant business. But more importantly, he’s insane. He’s gone to Cleveland, Ohio to take down a massive grilled cheese sandwich, he’s gone to Long Island, New York to eat a seven pound seafood feast, he’s eaten 50 wings in 30 minutes in Boulder, Colorado.

He was in Roseville last Wednesday to take out a gigantic chili dog at Parker’s Hot Dogs of Santa Cruz.  Eric Owen, co-owner of Parker’s, said he was completely surprised that the show filmed an episode at his hot doggery.

“It’s one of those things that kind of blew our mind when they said, ‘Hey, we want to come and Adam wants to try and eat the 5 pound chili dog,’” he said.

So, the question is did Richman manage to take out the gigantic wiener?

“You’ve got to watch the show,” Owen said. Don’t blame him, he had to sign a waiver stating that he wouldn’t talk about the results of Richman’s challenge.

Luckily there will be an party on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when the episode airs at either 6 p.m. or 9 p.m. at the 7456 Foothills Boulevard location.  Check back at the store for more details. You can call them (916) 782-0338, but going in person and buying hot dogs is always preferred.

  1. I can’t wait to see what they bring to Splash this year. In fact, I think I’ll head over there for lunch on Wednesday to see if I can take down that 5 lb chili dog.

  2. I love that show and am excited to see Parker’s represent Roseville! :) Maybe they’ll bring the 5 lb dog to SPLASH!

  3. I saw the show last night. Food won. But, I think that time limit is wimpy. If you really think your dog is big, give more than 20 minutes to eat it. Yeah Yeah… 1 guy claimed to do it under 10 minutes. Adam was maybe 4 minutes from finishing the fries. Give the average Joe a fighting chance. 20 minutes makes me think two guys that own this place are really afraid to give away maybe 1 dog for every 20-30 that try it. Make the time limit reasonable and maybe you’ll have to give away more free dogs, but you’ll also entice many more failures.
