ADA Reform Hearing Date Set!

The committee hearing for Assemblywoman Beth GainesADA lawsuit reform legislation, Assembly Bill 1878, has been set for 9 a.m. on May 1 in committee room 4202 at the State Capitol. They need your help getting the word out.

This legislation will give our community’s most vulnerable small businesses an opportunity to correct an ADA violation before a lawsuit can be filed. Once a business has received a written notice of violation, they would be given 120 days to begin to correct the violation.

Chamber members, business owners, and anyone interested are invited to attend the hearing and testify in person, or send in letters of support.  If a business is interested in testifying in person, please contact Jenna Nielson at (916) 774-4430.  Depending on the number of people who wish to testify, individuals may only be able to say their name, organization and that they support the bill, but this is still very helpful.

Click Here for a sample letter of support as an example (you can use the letter as is, or submit your own). Letters must be sent to the Assembly Judiciary Committee by Tuesday, April 24! Letters can be addressed to either:

The Honorable Beth Gaines

California State Assembly

State Capitol, Room 4009

Sacramento, CA 94249-2004

Or

The Honorable Mike Feuer, Chair

Assembly Judiciary Committee

1020 N St., Room 1047
